Source: Genworth 2026 Cost of Care Survey, plus Clear Care Connect facility data where noted. Figures are area medians rounded to the nearest $50 — illustrative, not quotes. No inflation or future projection is applied.
- Nursing home figures are a single median. The dataset does not separate semi-private and private rooms.
- No year-over-year change is published in this dataset, so no trend percentages are shown.
- Only 10 states carry Clear Care Connect facility-derived assisted-living bands; every other state uses the Genworth state index.
- Facility-level prices are not available anywhere on this site — these are area medians, never quotes.

How does this senior care cost calculator work?
You enter a location and pick a care type. The calculator matches your input to a state (or falls back to the national figure), then applies that state's cost index to the published national median for the care type you chose. For hourly in-home care it multiplies the local hourly median by the weekly hours you set. The source behind each figure is printed next to the result, not hidden behind a tooltip.
What data sources sit behind the estimates?
The Genworth Cost of Care Survey (2026 edition) for national medians and state variation, plus Clear Care Connect's own facility pricing database in the states where we hold enough facility-level data. Every figure was last verified against its source on 5 September 2026.
How accurate is the estimate for my city?
It is a state-level median, not a city quote. Urban metro costs typically run 10–25% above the state average and rural areas below it. Treat the number as a planning baseline and confirm with two or three local quotes.

How many hours of in-home care should I budget for?
Twenty hours a week is a common starting point for help with meals, bathing and errands. Around-the-clock cover through rotating shifts is far more expensive than a comparable facility placement in most states, which is usually the point at which families compare assisted living seriously.
What is not included in these figures?
Community entrance or move-in fees, second-person fees, incontinence supplies, medication management surcharges, transportation and higher care-tier charges are billed separately by most communities and are not in these medians.
